JLB Designs Jewelry
I was born and raised in Utah, graduating from Utah State University with a degree in Fashion Merchandising. I always wanted to work at something where I could be creative, but realized after my first trip to New York to visit FIT (fashion institute of technology) that graduating from an agricultural college with a fashion degree was probably not going to get me that kind of work.
I moved to Chicago where I worked retail then moved into a buying office as a fashion merchandiser none of which let me express any creativity, so after work a friend of mine and I started making jewelry for ourselves, we would use paper clips to wire the beads together, this is how my foray into jewelry began. I quickly discovered I am allergic to base metals so the search began for sterling wire, then more beads, gem shows, then silversmithing classes. I bought a used torch my first class, I was hooked! I am largely self-taught but take classes whenever I can. I started selling my work to friends, local craft fairs, then retail stores and have been fortunate enough to have a few pieces in Sundance catalog and was just recently added to Arhaus online as well as print catalog.
I work in sterling, gold-fill and copper enamel. My pieces are then mixed with semi-precious stones or vintage pieces. I hand-pierce, stamp & press my pieces. They are all made by me in my little studio attached to my garage in Salt Lake City where I reside with my husband, dancing daughter Genevieve and our 2 dogs & cats!
