Peepkin Tile - 4x8

In Peepkin, a wide-eyed cat peers out from behind a plump orange pumpkin, its striped body nearly disappearing into the curves and vertical lines of its hiding place. Edie McKee Harper’s playful geometry and love of cats come together in a design that feels especially at home in autumn—but has enough personality for year-round display. 

Harper captured the joke in a poem accompanying the original artwork: 

Peter, Peter, pumpkin eater. No, 
no, not Peter; not eater, either. It’s 
Peeper, Peeper, pumpkin peeper. 
Hide behind a pumpkin shell, and 
there you’re hidden very well. 

Like many works from the Charley Harper Art Studio, Peepkin was originally released as a hand-screened serigraph, with each color printed separately through its own screen. Motawi translates that same precision into clay, using our Cuenca technique to define the lines and hold each glaze in place.
